Women of the IDF

Start

It’s summer and time to relax with some reality TV. What could be better than watching five female IDF soldiers as they navigate arresting terrorists, protecting Christian tourists at the Jordan river, dating, cooking, and friendship?

Following a few months in the lives of combat soldier Vee, basic training commander Leah, combat fitness instructor Lior, combat squad commander Shahar, and tank instructor Ella doesn’t need to be a guilty pleasure, when it’s educational as well as fun. The series provides an unusually clear and vivid window into what all young Israelis must go through while their American peers obssess about micro-aggressions or play drinking games on college campuses. The show’s stars are charming and beautiful young women.

The six-episode run on Amazon Prime is shot against the gorgeous backdrop of the Holy Land, but tense moments interrupt the idyllic landscape, just as they do in real life. The producers were given unprecedented access to a sensitive military operation as well, so viewers will see an unusual inside view. It was filmed in its entirety before the October 7 attack, so I’ll give one spoiler, which is that all the stars thankfully survived that attack unharmed.

It’s a great show to share with family and friends who need to be educated about what it means to live under the constant threat of nearby enemies that all Israelis endure.
